How to register at the Comcourts portal

The Commonwealth Courts Portal is where you start a family law case, apply for a divorce, file documents in an existing case or to get a copy of a document from an old case (including your divorce certificate). To do any of these things, you must register at the Comcourts portal first. But do not worry- it’s easy! And we’ll explain now what to do:

  • Browse your way to the Commonwealth Courts (Comcourts) portal. Click on Register now to register with the service as an individual user.
  • Check your email Inbox for your login details.

But it pays to get organised beforehand. If you will be starting a case or filing documents in the portal, make sure you know where to find the electronic copies of the documents you expect to be asked for, ready for uploading. Don’t worry if you forget something! Once registered, you will be able to go in and out of the portal as many times as you need.  It will just save you some time and energy if you can do it all at once.

Lastly, if you’re planning to file documents, have your credit or debit card ready to pay the filing fees.

The digital age in the Australian family court system has well and truly arrived. The family courts have already started to take the wheels off their paper file system and use only electronic digital court files.  This means that, unless there are unusual circumstances, you can no longer ring up the court registry to get a copy of a court document. This applies also to getting a copy of your divorce certificate

Despite that it’s easy to use after you are set up, lots of people for find it challenging to use the Comcourts portal for the first time. For help with registering at the Comcourts portal, or with doing what you want to do once you get in there, contact the courts by  live chat  or  email and they’ll guide you through.
